About LZ Baldy and Hawk Hill
LZ Baldy, also known as Landing Zone Baldy and hill 63, was a fire support base located Northwest of Chu Lai, Quảng Nam Province in North central Vietnam. During the Vietnam War, LZ Baldy (Hill 63) was a Military Fire Support Base for the U.S. Army and U.S.Marines. C Co 23 Med Bn moved from Chu Lai to Hill 63 around 1967. From 1967 until Jan 1970 LZ Baldy was the home for U.S. Army Company C, 23rd Medical Battalion Americal Division Republic of South Vietnam. This Medical company worked to save the lives of all U.S. soldiers, enemy soldiers and civilians. The company also supported Graves Registration who took care of the deceased. C Co 23 Med Bn supported F Troop, 17th Cavalry with medics as needed for medical care while in the field.
C Co 23 Med Bn moved to Hawk Hill in Dec 1969 and Jan 1970. Hawk Hill was located about half way between LZ Baldy and Chu Lai just off of highway one. This Base and C Co 23 Med Bn continued to care for the sick and wounded.

About 236 Med Det
The 236 Medical Detachment (Air Ambulance) also known as Dustoff was stationed about 20 miles Northeast of LZ Baldy in Danang. This group worked very closely with the med battalion at LZ Baldy and later Hawk Hill. The Dustoff crew, (two pilots, a crew chief and a medic) went out into the field to recover wounded soldiers to bring them back to the medical battalion for medical treatment. Dustoff rotated crews every four days. Dustoff would sometimes be escorted with gunships that would help protect them from enemy fire in hot area's. At times, the detachment needed to travel into active warzones to retrieve the wounded while taking enemy fire unescorted. Many lives were saved because of the 236 Med Det and other's like them that served throughout South Vietnam.

About This Website
This website is here to document the reunions and to share the memories from Vietnam and the people who were there. Almost 35 years after the war this group, from C Co 23 Med Bn, met together for their first annual reunion in September 2004 (see VN Gallery-Past Reunions) where they looked back on their memories from Vietnam and to catch up on each other’s lives since then. The bond they all formed in Vietnam holds true to this day. This website also serves to locate others from C Co 23 Med Bn and the 236 Med Det who were stationed in Vietnam during the war.
